plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

Sometimes you break your own rules because the story in the photos is enough to truly tell a story. Without having any background on this wedding, I could instantly tell it was full of heart. Important moments.  And, memories.  Peter and Carly even made sure to make a visit to Carly’s grandfather, who is gravely ill and could not attend the wedding.  Talk about pulling at your heartstrings.

Also, loving on Carly’s short hair.

I love a wedding where there is no fussiness. It’s all the right amount of detail, personality and love. Tom and Blakely planned their wedding in three months (yes, three), and made sure to make every element of their wedding about them. Focusing on the traditions that meant the most to them, and ignoring and nixing the others.

And, they were fortunate to have their wedding in such a beautifully modern venue. The punches of color throughout the space really helped lay the foundation for the beautiful reception details.

From the Bride:
Tom only wanted a 3-4 month engagement and I knew I wouldn’t have the desire to be totally into wedding planning for months and months. In fact, I would’ve been happy to elope. Seriously. The 3 months of planning was all a balancing act of convenience, cost and time. If it wasn’t important to Tom or me, it wasn’t part of the wedding. Very few things happened because of tradition or expectation. For example, we had no bouquet/garter toss because neither of us particularly enjoyed them as singles, so why put our friends through it?

Since our venue was such a modern building, I really wanted to add some texture. From the burlap and books to the 1,000′s of daisies bought wholesale and assembled by friends the day before definitely felt and looked specific to Tom and me. The whimsy and sheer volume of daisies was one of my favorite parts and loved that so many guests and family were able to take flowers home that lasted for weeks. Having a great friend (Anna Cordes) volunteer to take care of all of the details for tables at the reception was a huge, huge help. I was able to cast the vision, give her the budget (which she didn’t even come close to spending!) and she took care of the rest

Being a self proclaimed wedding cake connoisseur, the taste of the cake was highest priority. It tasted as amazing as the samples and I can’t wait until our 1st anniversary to get more!

I could not have asked for anything more perfect. We loved our day and still love looking back through pictures remembering the covenant we have made. In the end, for us, we loved our day and as Tom says, “it was just right.”

How can you not love a wedding when a bride pays attention to the details? Not to mention, when there are some cute little old men wearing bow ties! Lauren and Rob were wed in Geneva, Illinois, and their wedding was photographed by the talented Tim Tab Studios.
