The FI and I are trying to incorporate several green and eco-friendly ideas into the wedding. This is one thing that was really important to us while planning our soiree. A few of the ideas we have come up with so far:
- Printing our invitations front and back (saves paper!)
- Using postcards for the Save the Dates and RSVPs (no need to waste envelopes!)
- Attempting to use recycled paper whenever possible (invitation suite, escort cards, menus, programs, envelopes, etc.)
- Our ceremony venue (is a greenhouse, essentially, so no need to purchase additional floral arrangements)
- Our reception venue (linens for the table, linen napkins, glass drinkware)
- Purchasing carbon offsets (To make up for all of the traveling our guests will do to spend our special day with us)
We have more ideas up our sleeves, but these are the initial ones we have decided on.
We have been wavering back and forth about the use of programs. Our ceremony will be fairly short, as it is not a religious one, and it did not seem necessary to have programs. There won’t be any readings or songs sang and maybe one tradition (a new one thanks to Miss Cowboy Boot on Weddingbee), which we’ll change up a bit. The FMIL has hinted that she would like us to have programs so everyone knows who is in the wedding party. Since we are having a small party, it does not seem necessary, plus we’ll do a fun introduction at the reception for them. THEN, I was reading one of my regular blogs this morning, when I stumbled upon one of the greatest ideas for the wedding, which incorporates reusing the programs in a new way. Another fun eco-friendly/green idea to incorporate into the wedding, which made my morning!
I so badly want to share this, but haven’t even told the FI about it yet! Plus, I want it to be a fun surprise at the wedding ceremony. Do any of you have any ideas that you want to save for a reveal on the special day?

When I first started working on wedding plans a few months ago, I kept reading about all these different craft ideas. In the world of wedding plans, you run across terms like Gocco, Cricut, etc. Gocco was a little too intense for me. With a guest list of around 250, there is no way you could pay me to make 250 of anything with the Gocco, so it was not worth the investment. Now, the Cricut on the other hand, was totally up my alley.
It can cut paper and templates for crafting projects, which to me was ideal, considering how much scrapbooking I do. Add to that wedding plans and DIY projects, it just seems like the perfect fit (for me, that is). I haven’t purchased one (and I am REALLY considering it). On some of the many nights that I stay up late (which is every night), I have found myself watching the infomercials for the Cricut (I will pause so you can laugh). It has been about two months since the last one I saw, so my desire to own one got put on the back burner. That is, until I was going through all of my bookmarked wedding blogs, only to find Mrs. Penguin rave about hers. And now the desire is back. More than ever now too. I could make my envelope liners without having to hand-cut them, I could have our escort cards cut in fun shapes, and our menus could be circles! And, Amazon is selling it for $200 less than what it is on Cricut.com.
And, the desires just stands….need to think about this one and whether or not the FI wants to hear me cutting things on my Cricut at 2 in the morning (which is probably a big NO).
What should I do? Buy it? I could totally use it down the road (personalized stationary, thank you cards, scrapbooking, etc. etc.). Oh the decisions!
