plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

It’s no surprise I’m not a DIY fan. Let me re-phrase. I don’t like to actually do DIY projects myself – but I love to see what everyone else comes up with.

When I found these adorable (and, easy) ribbon wands, I couldn’t not share them. Like I said, they’re easy to make, plus, they are a great alternative to bubbles or birdseed for a wedding exit.

So, what do you need?

- One or two feet wooden dowels (Quantity will vary based on your guest count)
- Ribbon, cut in strips at 3/4 yard in length (The more ribbon per dowel, the better the effect)
- Scissors

This project includes no glue, staples or sewing. Simply tying ribbons onto wooden dowels. And, let me tell you, it’s the perfect project to recruit your bridesmaids to help with (and, you can include wine without feel of stabbing or poking yourself with something sharp).

So, it happens to be a little known fact that I’m not a fan of lace on wedding gowns. Let me clarify. I’m not loving on the lace gowns (for me). One of my really good friends got married a few weeks ago, and her gown was a gorgeous, lace Justin Alexander gown. She was radiant. But, if you put that gown on me, I would not be a happy bride.

I digress.

It’s Bridal Market Week in Chicago, in case your unaware.  Some of the top designers are showing their designs for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. And, I happen to fall in love with this beauty.

And, I happened to adore this one, too.

It may have to do with the fact that my gown is by Watters, but the silhouettes and chicness of these gowns have me swooning like crazy.

Just wait until Bridal Market Week in New York. Swooning will be way over the top.

I know a one or two ladies who are quite fond of these shoes and couldn’t believe they were, at one point, made in that gorgeous orange!

Many years ago (okay, let’s be real, more like five years ago), sites like Wedding Wire and Project Wedding did not exist.  In this technology driven world, more and more brides are finding that the interweb is a WONDERFUL resource in wedding planning.  Not just for ideas, but to get reviews of potential vendors they are looking into using for their wedding.

As a bride-to-be myself, I have found myself numerous times on Project Wedding, trolling the vendor reviews to help narrow down the vendors I plan on meeting with (talk about a time saver).

I highly recommend that all of you former brides and brides-to-be out there use these websites.  Go log on now and review your vendors.  Be honest and true, and help other brides in making their decisions.   And, you brides-to-be, log on to these sites and do some research.  Learn about your vendors before you make any decisions or meet with them.  I definitely suggest using Project Wedding (after all, it is the sister site to Weddingbee, which is a top site on my wedding blog list).  On top of that, your vendors will appreciate you taking the time to give them feedback on their service (which is important!).

Have any of you used these sites in your wedding planning?  Have you reviewed any vendors?
