plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

I thought I wanted my bridesmaids to carry small bouquets.  That is, until I saw this:

I have seen the idea before, but this time it really struck me. I think it would be a fun and modern twist on the original bouquet to instead have the girls carry clutches in different patterns of reds and/or oranges. For the sake of the wedding ceremony, we would adorn each clutch with a peony or ranuncula.

It’s something a bit more fun, and instead of throwing away their bouquets, the girls get to keep a fun clutch.  I’m not much of a flower person (although they smell wonderful and I am having a love affair with ranunculas), so this could be another different and unique element for the wedding (even the FI said it’s a “cool” idea).  I still plan on carrying a bouquet (I’m sure some of you were asking this in the back of your mind).

Are your girls going to carry flowers, or you going to go for something a bit modern/untraditional?

Besides loving many of the aspects of local stationary designer, Cheree Berry’s wedding, I love the little gift that Darcy from Martha Stewart Weddings gave her on her wedding day.  I have eyed that gift since the day I bought the recent issue of “Martha Stewart Weddings.”

(How can you not love her bouquet, too. More on that another time.)

I mostly love the idea of having handkerchiefs made for my bridemaids (cue to the girls, ignore this post) and have them embroidered with their monogram or something meaningful to them. I REALLY love the idea of finding a different vintage handkerchief for each of them, one that represents their personalities.

I haven’t thought too much about what I plan on getting them (okay, maybe I have, a little), but when I find little ideas like this, it really makes you thing beyond the whole “Here is a piece of jewelry for being in my wedding” gift. Not that there is anything wrong with that, because there isn’t. Most everyone that knows me, knows I am sentimental, so I want to make sure my gifts to my girls really mean something.

What would you get your bridesmaids? Have you found any fun ideas?

When the FI and I got engaged back in February, colors were one of the first things we decided on (as seen here).  It was not long after that I knew I wanted my ‘maids to where chocolate brown.  Although it’s a neutral and somewhat muted color, I wanted to make sure that where ever we had a splash of tangerine or garnet, that you could see it.  I felt, that if we had the girls wear red or orange, that there would be SO much of it around the ceremony and reception.  Plus, chocolate brown is a very chic color (and re-wearable).

Trust me, both me and the FI really love the color red, and the orange is fun and vibrant, but I am completely lusting over my girls wearing chocolate brown.  I haven’t picked out the actual dress they will wear and have a few in mind, all of which come in a shade of brown that I really love.  I am actually in love with the idea of having the girls find their own dresses in shades of brown (even though the dresses below are not in shades of brown, you get the point).

Each of the girls would be able to highlight their own personal style, while still fitting in with the look and feel of our wedding.  Obviously, I would need to okay the dresses, that way all of the girls’ dresses complement each other. I just feel as though the tradition of having the girls all wear the same dress in the same color is not nearly as popular anymore (or am I dreaming?).

What do you all think?  Would you prefer your girls to all wear the same color/same dress or mix it up a bit with complementary colors and/or different dresses?

If you could please show up to our wedding rehearsal in this or something like this, the FI and I would love you forever. Not even kidding.  This goes you for you too, Mom and Dad.  And, I know you two would totally take part in this.  Loves it.

Thanks to Aletha at Pearls Events for posting these photos!

It’s been nearly a month since I last tried her on.  I have yet to actually purchase my wedding dress, mostly because mom and I have not had matching schedules to be able to go together to actually get sized, pay the deposit and order the dress.  It’s killing me softly (Fugees, anyone?).

I love the dress as much as the day I first put it on, but I just need a reminder.  Now I know why brides who have ordered their dress and wait and wait for it to come in feel.

I still need to find a bridesmaid dress (which I’m pretty sure I have) for my ‘maids, which may give me an excuse to make an appointment.  I obviously cannot go alone….I need a ‘maid there to try on dresses, so I can then try on mine. Really, I would take anyone with me at this point, just to have an excuse to try her on again.  Just to remind you all, I have already been there three times to do this.

Don’t you hate the waiting you have to endure?!
