plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

February is here, and February is also known as the month of love. Valentine’s Day is this week, and we’ve got lots of pink and red and love inspired ideas to share with you! Of course weddings and engagements are already inspired by love, but Valentine’s Day has a way of making love seem extra special and stand out just a little bit more. Here are a few of my favorite red, pink and heart inspired trends to consider for your engagement sessions, bridal showers and wedding days. Enjoy!

(Taking a break from today’s real wedding).

For the past month or so, several of us have been scheming. (And, by “us” I mean a wonderful group of ladies – see below). We’ve been scheming for the fabulous Abby of Life in the Super Burbs. You see, she’s getting married this Saturday. And, while we would ALL love to be at her wedding, it just wasn’t possible. AND, while we would have loved to actually have a wedding shower for her, we couldn’t do that either.

So, what do we do? We put together a virtual wedding shower, and had a gift made especially for Abby and her soon-to-be husband, to which we would like to invite you all to join in the celebration!

Invitation by the FAB Andrea at Gwyneth Paige

And, in honor of this “virtual wedding shower” I wanted to share, not only pieces of the wonderful gift we all put together, but share a recipe (a delicious one, at that) that, if we had a physical wedding shower, I would have made.

Now, I can’t take credit for this recipe. I managed to stumble across it thanks to me attending the wedding shower of a good friend earlier this summer.

Tomato and Avocado Bruschetta

3 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 box grape tomatoes (chopped and drained)
1 avocado (peeled and diced)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
2 tablespoons fresh basil
4 oz. feta cheese
4 oz. cream cheese
1 loaf of bread (slice it and then toast it in the oven)

Mix cheeses. Spread on toasted bread. Combine remaining ingredients and spoon the mixture on top of the bread.

Yes, it really is that easy. And, it’s delicious. I don’t like avocado one bit, but I LOVED this bruschetta.

And, the part you’ve all been waiting for. Abby’s gift. We had a quilt made by Etsy Seller, TAPESTRI. This quilt is unique in that each of us bloggers submitted to her two quotes – or words of advice, for Abby. She embroidered fabric squares and patched them into a quilt, which was made with blue and white tones – to match the home of Abby and her (almost) husband. With word she just received the quilt – we had to all share. Below are my two quilt squares, with the pieces of “love” wisdom I submitted to the quilter.

If you want to see the quilt squares from the rest of the group – be sure to check out each of their blogs – and then visit Abby’s for photos of the full quilt!
