mixing and matching your bridesmaids

Not every wedding warrants matchy-matchy bridesmaids dresses. So, how do you get your girls to match without actually matching?

1. Give your girls some guidelines. Whether its length, color, style. With a few rules in mind, they can go on the hunt for a dress that matches their style, but fits with your rules.

2. Give the girls a list of specific styles to pick from. Shops like Bella Bridesmaid, J.Crew, and David’s Bridal make this easy!

3. Ask to see the dresses before they purchase (or make sure they are returnable if the girls end up purchasing). This will give you the opportunity to preview all of the dresses and give them the okay.

4. And, lastly – don’t feel like you have to have your girls match (or not match). Go with your gut, and pick an option that works best with the overall look and feel of your wedding.

bridesmaid style: a pop of color

So, you’re not sure how to dress your ‘maids. You could go the traditional route, and have them all wear the same thing (I did). Or, you could have them coordinate a monochromatic look. Or, you can have all of them wear the same thing, except the maid of honor. Of which, I am a fan of when it is executed beautifully.

Case in point: Bridesmaids in a neutral, Maid of Honor in a bold wedding color. Two words: Le Swoon.

zooey deschanel

I love Zooey Deschanel. Love.

I also love 500 Days of Summer (and you should to – fantastic movie).

I mostly admire Zooey for two things: 1. Her hair. 2. Her style. So, for all reasons, I was excited when the girls over at Wedding Chicks shared that you, too, can have Zooey’s dress from 500 Days of Summer. And, in any color you’d like. All thanks to the fabulous Etsy seller Shauna’s World. It’d be a great shower dress, rehearsal dinner dress, or even wedding dress.

twigs & honey hairpieces

Seeing as I’m not a veil-person, I encourage brides to embrace the hair piece. You don’t have to be a bride by wearing a veil. Brides take on many different forms. So opt for a hair flower, or fascinator – it’ll be okay (but know, that if you want to wear a veil, that’s perfectly fine and beautiful, too!).

Maybe you’re a headband gal?

Or a flower gal?

chelsea ties the knot

Just in case you weren’t aware, Chelsea Clinton got married this weekend. And, as much as I know that these photos will be everywhere for the next week or so, I couldn’t not share them, but there is something so classic and beautiful and timeless about them. About her dress. And, the setting.

It’s photos like this that truly make me happy with my decision to wear a statement piece for my wedding day necklace. More than happy, really. Sometimes you don’t have to wear your pearls on your wedding day (trust me, I love my pearls). Plus, jewelry is a great way to bring color into your wedding day ensemble.

Also, I love all of the photos Tec Petaja took from this wedding. It probably helps that it was the wedding of Mat Kearney, probably one of my most favorite singers.

Can’t help but love a sweet and sentimental wedding day accessory. The bride wore a brand new garter on her wedding day, but paired it with her grandma’s. The perfect “something old” and “something blue.”
