Tim sent over this engagement session and I was just over the moon with how much joy Jon and Sam exude in these photos. Maybe it’s because they grew up down the street from each other, turned into best friends and are now married.
From the Bride:
Lial proposed on June 25, 2011. He had recently moved into an apartment right around the corner from a frozen yogurt shop, and we often walked there for dessert. While normally I would be the one to suggest getting frozen yogurt, on this particular night it was Lial who suggested taking a stroll to the shop. Nothing seemed out-of-the ordinary as we walked the familiar path to the yogurt shop and then accross the street to the small park where we like to sit and eat our yogurt. It was a peaceful night – we had the park all to themselves. As they were sitting on the bench, Lial told me that he had gone to visit my parents a few weeks prior while she was working. As soon as I heard this, I knew what he was going to say. He continued on, telling me that he had gone there to ask for their permission to marry me. Then Lial got down on one knee, pulled the ring out of his pocket, and asked me to marry him. I said “yes” immediately…it was perfect.
Sweet and pure.
This engagement session has style, attitude and fun. And, because the bride-to-be is an actress, the couple chose to snap some of their photos at the Orpheum Theatre. Quite fitting, if you ask me. Plus, I can’t help but love that last photo of Tara and Dennis.
From Jaclyn, the photographer:
Tara and Dennis are planning a stylish, modern 2012 wedding, and they wanted their engagement session to reflect the same style. They split their session into two halves. Off-camera lighting was used for both shoots to create drama and and to add bright pops of color and texture. Part one took place on Commerce Street, an arts district in Wichita, Kansas. Part two was shot inside the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Wichita. Since Tara is an actress at the Mosley Street Melodrama in town, shooting inside the old theatre felt appropriate.
Fall colors make me swoon. While there are beautiful colors in the Spring and Summer, nature really shines in the Fall. Those oranges and reds and yellows? They are just stunning. A perfect way to transition into the dormant Winter.
I have a soft spot for Fall engagements. Maybe its because my own engagement session and wedding were both in the Fall. But it’s mostly because Fall is my favorite season. It’s when the rich colors start to come out of hibernation.
Classic Colorado in this post for you. Emily and Mike both live and work in Breckenridge for the Breck Ski Resort. So, it is clearly fitting they decided to have their engagement photos while hitting the slopes. Something I have always wanted to do (although, I’m pretty sure I’d fall one too many times).
And, kudos to Jason for capturing these photos while snowboarding himself.
I love an engagement session with a story.
Robyn + Mick decided on Clinton Lake’s dog park and Liberty Hall on Mass Street for their locations. She’s a University of Kansas grad; he’s a KU student. They have both worked at Liberty Hall at some point over the course of the past several years. Plus, they both grew up in Lawrence as Jayhawks, with her dad being a faculty member. And, how can you not love their dogs, one of which is their “Best Dog” in their wedding (Gus, their Great Dane).
What’s better than spending your engagement session at a Christmas tree farm? These two adorable high school sweethearts will be tying the knot next year, and chose to hang out with that wonderful pine tree smell since Scott proposed in December.
Lets just hope if they cut down a tree they remembered to bring a saw (Christmas Vacation anyone?).
Puppies, coffee and open fields in Colorado. Yes. Yes. And, yes.
