plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

Being the graphic design nerd that I am, and a big fan of keeping up with color trends in design and wedding themes, I happen to always look forward to Patone’s Color of the Year release. Please hide the snickers. It’s a small reveal, but it’s interesting each year their choice. For 2014, let me introduce you to Radiant Orchid:

I’m a huge fan of purple and all it’s shades so I’m looking forward to seeing how brides and grooms across the Midwest incorporate this color into their celebrations this year. I am also into the radiant elegance of the plant this color is inspired from, orchids. I’ll leave you with a little inspiration of how couples have incorporated the flower into their big day to get your brain juices flowing in creating color palettes with the 2014 color of the year!

Today we remember our veterans, our fallen soldiers; our grandparents, parents, brothers or sisters, moms and dads, friends and loved ones. The colors red, white and blue truly mean so much to us, and inspire us each and every day. Today we recognize these colors and the beauty, pride, and emotion they can bring to your wedding day.

Cheers to Red, White & Blue!

Spring and summer seasons are upon us and I am enjoying the sunshine and soaking up as much Vitamin D as I can! For brides planning their nuptials during these months a fantastic color to start with is sunshine inspired yellow. It goes great with a variety of other bright and neutral colors and it is a great eye-catcher for florals and accessories. We’ve collected some yellow inspiration below to get you started:

How would you incorporate yellow into your big day? What’s your favorite yellow pairing? My personal favorite is yellow and navy blue!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend celebrating St. Patrick’s day, and wishing you a happy recovery day today, that is, if you need it! So in the spirit of St. Patrick himself, enjoy these green wedding inspiration boards on this Monday morning.

Alright. Don’t hate on me, but given that this girl doesn’t do Valentine’s Day, I opted to take today’s post a different direction. And, when our newest contributor, Tiffany, said she’s on the same page, it was like fate. I’m a sucker for jewel tones, and given that I’m fair skinned and blonde, I love this palette she pieced together. Take it away, Tiffany!

Emerald is not only the Pantone color of the year but it’s also a great accent color for your wedding. Emerald really shines in the midwest where sometimes the landscape is not quite as green — especially in the early spring and late fall and winter. Can you imagine a white winter wedding with emerald accents? Sounds pretty dreamy to me.

Plus, emerald pairs so well with other colors like: white, gold, pearl, navy, red. How can you not love it?

Well, it’s been a good four months since the last color palette…but, that’ll be no more! Stay tuned for more inspiring color palettes!

Now that we have the apologies out of the way, I’m excited to share today’s color board. If you were over on Oh Lovely Day! earlier this week, you will have had a sneak peek (see here).  I love metallics. But, in a different way than most. I love mixing it with really bold and bright colors.  Especially in the winter time, because everyone is expecting you to pair gold and silver with icy blues and soft pinks. Black is the perfect pair for gold.  But, as I told Chandra’s readers on Monday, it also pairs well with red, green, blue, pink, yellow, orange….the list goes on.

What’s your favorite color to pair with gold?

I’ve wanted to do this board for a while. And, while the palette screams Fall (or Winter), I just love that you can add any other color to this to punch it up – pinks, reds, navy, gray.  At any rate, aubergine is a great rich color, and the black and white give the gold and aubergine the perfect backdrop for sophistication.

Bold and bright colors are just too much fun for me. And, it’s easy to play with their balance to create a different affect, including using them in subtle ways for a minimalistic look. Or, adding pops of color everywhere to make a statement. And, surf blue, apple, hot pink and white are the perfect Spring and Summer palette. Although, I challenge any couple to give a palette like this a try in Fall or Winter – now that would be a statement!

The warmth of the berry tone combined with the cool whale blue creates the perfect mix for a Spring palette. These colors can easily be popped with white for modern flair or kept simple for a classic spin.
