plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

There is something so heartwarming about truly supportive groomsmen.

So, I haven’t talked much about my own wedding on the blog lately – but today is a big day for the Pilot and I. We have our first shower tonight – one of the first things that is really solidifying the fact that we’re getting married soon. Wow, in just about two months.

Happy Wedding Weekend to those getting married this weekend. To those who are not, Happy Friday!

And, watch out for those flying paper planes!

The party continued at The Lodge at Ironwoods in Leawood, Kansas where the venue really brought home the outdoorsy feel from the ceremony.

The beautiful thing about a lot of Midwestern weddings is their simplicity.  While the details are definitely still there – not very many brides try to be over the top. It’s just not in our blood.

Ashley and Taylor were wed outside on a late summer day in September.  And, in the Midwest, that means unpredictable weather. Lets be honest, every day the weather is unpredictable.  The skies opened up just towards the end of their ceremony – and rather than pitch a fit, the two made the absolute best of the situation and enjoyed their moment of marital bliss.

A seriously refreshing palette for your (hopefully) eventful Wednesday.

I’ve featured majolica blue on the blog before – but in more of a Fall palette. I love the splash of yellow in this combination. It’s the perfect punch of color (and Summer).

Taking cues from a good friend’s wedding, and Abby from Life in the Super Burbs, I love a bride who embraces TOMS shoes. Especially the colorful ones!

It’s not what you think. Instead, it’s a creative way to display your cupcakes without having to place them on tiers.

I love when brides push the envelope. A little rock n’ roll, a little rebellion. So much personality.

Case in point: Amanda and Ben were wed at the Bay Pointe Inn in Shelbeyville, Michigan.

And, as part of their “big finale” the two decided to take the plunge. Right into wakeboarding. Amanda in her gown and Ben wearing his full suit.  Don’t believe me?

For one, I suck at wakeboarding, so this would never happen. But, it does make me wish we were getting married in the mountains so the Pilot and I could snow ski/snowboard in our attire. Would be fun!

And, kudos to Kristen for capturing these photos!
