plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

What sucks was that I spent countless hours designing our Save the Dates. Countless, people. I’m a perfectionist, and so it took me about 15 plus tries to design something that I was pretty happy with.

Design One: Bleh. Was based on an invite design I did back in April 2009 (yes, you read that correctly, almost a year ago).

Design Two: Update of design one. Do you see a trend here?

Design Three: I decided to play off of a Frank Lloyd Wright wall stencil I found (the Mr. just loves the work of FLW).

I seriously have about 4 or 5 iterations of each of the above designs. I originally thought I wanted something edgy, but each time I designed something, the result was something more simple (hence why the three fairly art-deco-y designs above).

On top of that, I would spend endless amounts of time swooning over all of the save the dates I found online and from which I wished I could get inspired. So, what did I do? I walked away. For six months (wha??). Yeah, I totally forgot about them for six months, until we had our engagement photos taken, and I realized we should use one of those pretty little photos with our save the dates. Duh!

How long did it take you to pick out or design your save the dates? (Hopefully not six months, like me).

  1. We did a magnet, and I think I decided relatively quickly (for me, anyway). Maybe a few weeks? We’ve been married for two years, and our family and friends STILL have that magnet on their fridges. :)

  2. You have great taste and style. I am sure no matter the direction you choose it will be amazing.

  3. We copped out and went the photobooth route. Headed to the mall with a bunch of singles, about an hour of spare time and four construction paper signs that read “save” “the” “date” “8 july 2005.” A couple dozen tries later we found one we liked, scanned it in to the computer, printed a bunch on adhesive paper, adhered to magnets, stuck in envelopes and voila, save the dates.

  4. Oh! Forgot to mention that I think your Frank Lloyd Wright design is super cute.

  5. We didn’t do them! They were just starting to become trendy when we were planning the wedding. Now, everyone is doing it!

  6. The internet can be bad like that with way too many options, it’s super easy to get overwhelmed. I really like the FLW one!

  7. I did square magnets in our wedding colors. Not the most complex design…but it worked.

  8. I’m a fan of the FLW one…for many, many reasons BUT your e-sesh photos are so cute. How could you not use one of those?!

  9. OOOOH, have you made the final ones yet? I am sure they will be gorgeous. It didn’t take me long to decide on ours, but its a magnet… had it on the blog awhile back.

Ps. Thanks for the sweet note.

  10. Can’t wait to see the photo ones!

We left everything to the last minute. Sent out our save the dates when the invites should have been sent out, sent out our invites way late. You are organised!

I started looking around almost immediately (maybe June or July of 2009) and didn’t make a decision until January 2010. So yeah…

  12. I love FLW…such an amazing architect.

We did not do save the dates. I do love the magnet ones, and agree that they stay around on the fridge for awhile. I like the simple clean designs you have, but definitely create one with a e-pic. ooooh maybe one with the balloons…that could blend into your art deco design with the repetition of circles! just a thought :)

They turned out super cute AND as I mentioned before, the envelope even made it onto my fridge!
