plan a modern wedding in the middle of the country

While the FI and I have a pretty minimal flower budget, mostly because neither of us really want a ton of flowers at our wedding, but can you believe this?

Mindy Weiss via Southern Weddings Magazine

I cannot even imagine how much money this couple spent on flowers for their wedding!  It’s like being in an indoor garden or a flower wonderland! Insane!  I bet it smelled wonderful in there!

As a Type A person, I love to be prepared for everything, with a timeline and all the details mapped out.  It is how I have been since I was young.

And, with bridal parties, most of your bridesmaids are going to care about the details as much as you, so they appreciate your schedule.  Your groomsmen, however, will not.  You’ll hand them a lovely little schedule of the day or weekend activities and where they need to be and when, and they think “Great.” And, the second you turn around, in the trash goes that lovely little schedule you worked so diligently on.

Heartbreaking right?  Well, here’s an idea.  A pocket schedule.  You can give it to the guys to keep in their pockets.  Heck, you can even give it to your bridesmaids and close family members who need to know what is going on during your wedding day.  The guys can put it in their pant pockets or suit coats, and the ladies can drop it in their clutches.

Genius, right? Yes, yes, I think so.  And, if you are wondering what these lovely little pocket schedules look like, Miss Apple Cider, of Weddingbee fame, recently posted about the pocket schedules she created for her wedding.  They are adorable and match her invitation suite and wedding theme perfectly.

The best part? She created these little beauties on her computer and printed them out home. Easy, DIY project!!

One year from today, my FI and I will say vows to each other in front of friends and family.  We will proclaim our love and celebrate with those who mean the most to us.

To you FI – I cannot wait to be your wife and lifelong partner.  In one year, we will become one, and I could not be more happy.  Happy negative one year anniversary.

Your vendors get hungry, too!

I had a friend of mine bring up this point recently.  She wanted to know if she should feed her photographer.  My response?? ABSOLUTELY.

You hired this person to spend all day with you and capture your wedding story, trust me when I tell you they will get hungry (heck, I’m hungry while typing this).

But, it’s not just your photographer you should worry about. You should also feed your wedding planner/day of coordinator, videographer, DJ and any other vendor that is spending a great deal of time with you on your day.  You don’t have to give them a full plate of what the rest of your guests get, but at least make sure they have like a sandwich, a side and something to drink.  Many venues offer a “vendor plate” which is different (and usually cheaper) than the main course plate, so they have a chance to re-fuel.  Keep in mind that especially vendors like your photographer and wedding coordinator are there practically all day with you.  You know they’re bound to get hungry, and you need make sure they stay nourished and energized!  It is just good etiquette!

Even Emily Post thinks you should feed your vendors!

If you have any other wedding day questions, let me know!  I’d love to feature your thoughts/questions/insights on the blog.

I big puffy heart the idea of using a chandelier outside for a wedding.  It adds an element of fantasy, romanticism and a touch of class.  Plus, it’s just plain fun.

I love the idea of displaying your wedding cake (or cakes) on fun and colorful cake platters.  Here are just a few of my favorites!

I’d love to have our cakes displayed on one of these, but we have yet to get that far into the planning! Fingers crossed that it’ll work out.

How did you display your cake?

Not every bride has thought about this, but the idea of buying a special hanger for your dress is a fun little concept.  Especially since the hanger can be a great keepsake for after the wedding.  The internet is filled with some great options, and here are just a few!

This hanger is a great option, as you can customize it in a multitude of ways. Plus, it could make some fun wall decor after the wedding is over.

This next option is the traditional hanger than several brides have considered. The padded hanger.

This last option is a great personalized hanger, that you can have embroidered with your married monogram and customized with colors and details.

Project Wedding

So do yourself a favor.  If you want some awesomely beautiful dress shots by your photographer, be sure to get a pretty little hanger to hang it on.  I’m sure you don’t want to see an Old Navy hanger in those shots!

April Foster recently featured this post from the Image is Found.  The bride and groom held a “Worst Dance” contest at their reception and gave $100 to the worst dancer.

Is that not a wonderful way to get your crowd up and on the dance floor?  I’m a huge dancer, and fully expect everyone to be dancing their boot-ays off at my wedding.  So, you better bet that if the crowd isn’t moving, that we’ll introduce something like this.

Are booked!  October 28.  So very excited about it, too!

I’ve been pulling some inspiration photos, and scouring the St. Louis area for a party supply company that sells perfectly round red latex balloons.  I’ll let you know how that goes…

So, yeah.  Inspiration.  Don’t want to give away the pictures I’ve been pulling, but we will be taking photos in two different locations in town.  At our last one, I’m hoping we can get a few shots like these.  Fingers crossed for wheat/wildflower and corn fields!

And, Lisa, we are both totally game for laying in the grass (or wheat/wildflower field!) or sitting in the middle of the road…If you’re feeling it.

Um, how can you not love this moment that Bobbi and Mike caught of the bride (image on the left)?  You can so tell her heart is just a-fluttering!  So magical!

And, as a tribute to my FI, because he LOVES tomatoes (so much so, in fact, that they are practically their own food group).  Let’s just say he puts ketchup on his ketchup.

That image is like the ring image from heaven for him.
